See Mark Wahlberg Return To a Life of Duct Tape-Assisted Crime in the Contraband Trailer
Did you guys realize that Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale were starring in a little heist movie called Contraband? Me neither, but that’s probably because Universal has quietly scheduled the film, from Icelandic director Baltasar Kormkur, for a quiet box office death release next January. But we’re going to need something to watch during that winter wasteland month so let’s take a look and see if super-angry Mark Wahlberg, his abs, and and Kate Beckinsale undressing for the camera can’t motivate us to buy tickets. It kind of looks like a poor man’s Ocean’s Eleven, right? Instead of Brad Pitt and George Clooney casing casinos for hundreds of millions of dollars via ingenius scams involving expensive copycat vaults, world class pick pockets and tiny Chinese gymnasts who can navigate security laser beams, Mark Wahlberg points a gun at someone’s head and then duct tapes fat stacks of cash to his abdomen. Problem. Solved. The problem being that his brother-in-law got him into some trouble and now he owes Giovanni Ribisi’s character (who can place that accent?) a lot of money that he doesn’t have. Looks like it’s time to return to his criminal ways! Look for Contraband, which also co-stars J.K. Simmons, Diego Luna and Giovanni Ribisi, in theaters January 13. [Yahoo!]

"While the number of LGBT characters is down, some of the most popular shows with critics and viewers such as Glee, True Blood and The Good Wife weave story lines about gay and lesbian characters into the fabric of the show," GLAAD acting president Mike Thompson said in a statement announcing the news. STORY: 'Glee,' 'Modern Family' Score GLAAD Awards "Whether it's the growing household of Mitchell and Cameron [Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet] on Modern Family or the recent wedding of Callie and Arizona [Sara Ramirez and Jessica Capshaw] on Grey's Anatomy, Americans expect to see the diversity of our country represented in their favorite programs and that includes gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people," he added. Fox, which broadcasts GLAAD comedy series co-winner Glee, ranked as the most inclusive broadcast network, with 6.8 percent of regular characters being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, marking a massive improvement from the group's 2007 report which failed to find one LGBT series regular on the network. The 2011-12 report marked the first time ABC was not in the lead for six years. NBC ranked third, followed by the CW and CBS. On the cable side, the figures effectively stayed the same with the number of announced LGBT series regulars dipping to 28 but the number of recurring characters rising to 54, even with last year. TV Ratings: 'Terra Nova' Launches Modestly, '2 Broke Girls' Dips 37%
FOX Fox's big-budget adventure series, Terra Nova, debuted on television Monday, posting respectable numbers for its two-hour launch. Terra Nova (9 million total viewers, 3.0 rating in adults 18-49 demographic), executive produced by Steven Spielberg, did modestly, up against heavy competition on CBS and ABC. The ambitious drama improved Fox's average by 25 percent from last season in the key demo, but the high-concept series is on an uphill climb to see if it can grow its audience in its second week. CBS' Two and a Half Men took an expected dive for its second episode, drawing 20 million and posting a 7.2 rating, giving it the easy victory on Monday night. The rest of the CBS comedies, save for the premiere of Mike & Molly (14 million, 4.9) improving 26 percent from last year's launch, dipped from their season premieres. How I Met Your Mother (10.6 million, 4.4) was down 6 percent, 2 Broke Girls (11.6 million, 4.5) -- in its time period premiere -- saw an expected 37 percent dip. Hawaii Five-0 (11.1 million, 3.3) was relatively steady at 10 p.m. CBS topped the night in the demo, averaging a 4.6. NBC's The Playboy Club continued to sink, dropping another 19 percent in its second week to draw 3.8 million and a 1.3. The Sing-Off (4.4 million, 1.7) didn't help Playboy either, hitting a series low in the demo. ABC's Dancing With the Stars (16 million, 3.3) was its lowest-rated performance show to date, while Castle (11.9 million, 2.9) was down 9 percent in the demo, the latter a steady second in its time period behind Hawaii Five-0. The CW's Gossip Girl (1.4 million, 0.8) returned for its fifth season, improving 22 percent in among the adults 18-34 demo from the season closer. Rachel Bilson's Hart of Dixie (1.8 million, 0.8) launched following the veteran Josh Schwartz soap, building upon its lead-in in total viewers by 29 perent. Dixie expanded its audience in the second half hour (1.7 million vs. 1.9 million) and the 18-49 demo (0.7 vs. 0.8). Notably, Univision's Teresa beat The Sing-Off in among adults 18-49 and Gossip Girl at 8 p.m. with a 1.8 rating, while the network's La Fuerza del Destino topped the second hour of The Sing-Off and Hart of Dixie with a 2.0. Perhaps more telling is Univision's Don Francisco Presenta posting the same 1.3 rating as the struggling Playboy Club (1.3). 'Thing' prequel morphs into U maze
Mary Elizabeth Winstead assessments the One Factor: Assimilation maze at Universals Halloween Horror Nights.
After trading yesteryear five years marketing other studios' movies, Universal is adopting its "Halloween Horror Nights" theme park franchise just like a marketing platform to hype its own films, beginning while using prequel for "The Main One Factor." With "Horror Nights" formally opening today and running mainly on weekends through Halloween, the thriller, starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton, can get its own elaborate maze in Universal's parks in Hollywood and Orlando. The characteristics typically don't share the identical mazes, though "The Main One Factor," they provided the very best. With 100s of thousands of site visitors buying tix to "Horror Nights," the studio saw the large event becoming an opportunity to spread the word in regards to the March. 14 release -- particularly with increased youthful moviegoers who may not always learn about John Carpenter's 1982 original -- also to take advantage from the company's various companies as promo platforms the way does having its Television stations. "We're very proud being the birthplace in the horror film genre and home of an amazing library of monsters," mentioned Universal Pictures chairman Adam Fogelson. "Halloween Horror Nights is the greatest place introducing park site site visitors regarding the promises to become very frightening 'Thing.'?" Because regard, "The Main One Factor" maze -- which illegal copies the film's Norwegian camping, where several researchers finish up infected by an alien creature that could transform itself right into a precise replica connected having a living being -- can also be useful for an approaching press junket for your pic as well as the afterparty in the film's March. 10 premiere. A maze based on "Saw" was formerly useful for press junkets together with a goal for bonus features that came out on homevideo releases. "Horror Nights" producers labored carefully while using filmmakers behind "The Main One Factor" to copy the design of the creatures and takes hold the pic, directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Junior. "For filmmakers it's good there's a collection,Inch mentioned John Murdy, creative director, Universal Art galleries Hollywood. "Here's your movie sitting here several days following a sets are actually torn lower." "(But) the specific movie sets aren't useful in my opinion. How you build something for just about any movie together with a haunted attraction that thousands of people will walk-through are very different. When you're undertaking a film and you're simply doing practical effects they must work once. When you're getting the shot you're golden and not needing to concern yourself with it again. That same shot needs to utilize us each night.Inch Because of that, "The Main One Factor" producers Marc Abraham and Eric Newman of Strike Entertainment advised Alec Gilles and Tom Woodruff's effects shop Amalgamated Dynamics, which handled the film's makeup and creature designs, to make use of Murdy and also the team, including art director and production designer Chris Williams. Murdy's crew wound up engaging in Amalgamated's facility, "which was absolutely huge for people,In . Murdy mentioned. "Within the finish throughout your day, if you see the creature, you're seeing their work." Additionally they labored while using appear and music departments to get into within the film's soundtrack. Producers didn't stop Murdy from re-creating aspects within the film. "We asked for if there has been any creatures you wouldn't like us to accomplish and so they mentioned, 'Do these.A That's what we should did. There's not really a significant creature in this film we didn't cover in this attraction. That's very unusual." Formerly, that kind of exposure with an approaching pic for U wasn't possible, getting a film's release too definately not "Horror Nights" dates or perhaps the genre not fitting the event's intended fear factor. U happen to be considering a maze just like a promo due to its update on "The Wolfman," but chosen not to when the film's release date moved from fall 2009 to February 2010. But another factor is awareness. "We look into from box office for the fanbase for just about any film," Murdy mentioned. "You need to use characteristics people know." For example, "Friday the thirteenth," "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" were featured in the past, with "Friday" and "Nightmare" produced in three other ways to take advantage of the originals, sequels and remakes. Murdy wanted "The Main One Factor" because the original Kurt Russell starrer retains a substantial fanbase. But more youthful crowd loved the brand new pic can be a prequel. "The producers truly developed a prequel," Murdy mentioned. "This is among the Norwegian camping alluded to inside the original film." "Horror Nights" starts with tonight's Eyegore Honours, situated by Corey Feldman. Rock-horror icon Alice Cooper, David Arquette, Rainn Wilson, Jamie Kennedy, Bailee Madison ("You Should not Panic from the Dark") and Emma Bell ("Final Destination 5") can get kudos. 5 other mazes built alongside "The Main One Factor: Assimilation" are "Eli Roth's Hostel: Hunting Season," "Alice Cooper: Thank you for going to My Nightmare," "Make the most of Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses: In 3d ZombieVision," "La Llorona: Apartment P Almas Perdidas" ("The Weeping Lady: Village in the Lost Souls") imagined by Diego Luna, and "Wolf Guy: The Curse of Talbot Hall." "Scream 4" can also be the theme in the studio backlot tram tour, with site visitors dealing with four different film sets creating the parody pic "Stab 8," suggested inside the pic.
